What this website records about visits, and what it does not.

This page covers the website marshallfrith.com and the web tools hosted on it. Each iOS app has its own privacy policy, linked from that app's page.

Visitor location on project pages

When you open one of the web tools listed on /projects/, your browser sends the page's path to this site (/api/view). The site's server, a Cloudflare Worker, then adds one to a daily counter for that page and your approximate location.

  • Where the location comes from: the approximate country and city are derived from Cloudflare's IP geolocation of the request. They are not taken from your device's location services.
  • What is stored: aggregate counts only. Each record holds exactly:
  • the date (UTC);
  • the project page (for example /improv/);
  • a two-letter country code;
  • a city name;
  • the number of views that match those four values.
  • What is not stored: your IP address, any hash of it, your browser's user agent, the referring page, cookies, or any other identifier for you or your device.
  • How long it is kept: daily counts are deleted automatically after 90 days.
  • How it is used: each project card shows its most-viewed place over the last 30 days, as "City, Country", or the country alone when no city is known.

Other things to know

  • The site is served by Cloudflare. Cloudflare processes requests, including IP addresses, to deliver and protect the site, under Cloudflare's privacy policy.
  • Pages load Cloudflare Web Analytics, which counts page views without setting cookies.
  • If you post a comment, send a message through the contact form, or submit an instructable, the site stores what you submit, including any name and email address you enter. Each submission is stored with a short salted hash of your network address, used only to limit repeat posting. The raw address is not stored. These forms are checked with Cloudflare Turnstile, which receives your IP address to tell people from bots.
  • If you create an account, the site stores your handle, your email address if you give one, and a hashed password. Signing in sets one session cookie that keeps you signed in for up to 30 days. Failed sign-in attempts are recorded with the same kind of salted hash and the handle tried, to stop password guessing, and are deleted after 24 hours.
  • No advertising, and no personal information is sold.
