Drink It Now — Privacy Policy
No account, sign-in, ads, or analytics SDK. Label OCR runs on device. Optional Wikidata lookup. Cellar and labels stay on your phone. We do not sell personal information.
Drink It Now (“the App”; display name Drink it now) is published by Marshall Tyler Frith. This policy explains what information the App uses.
Summary
- No account, sign-in, ads, or analytics SDK.
- Marshall Frith does not operate a Drink It Now backend that stores your cellar or label photos.
- Camera and photo library are used only when you take or pick a bottle label photo.
- Text recognition (OCR) runs on your device with Apple’s Vision framework.
- Optional producer lookup contacts the public Wikidata API from your device; offline or no match falls back to OCR-only quietly.
- We do not sell personal information.
Information the App uses
Camera and photos (optional). If you grant access, you can take a label photo with the camera or pick one from your library (PhotosPicker / camera picker). Usage strings in Info.plist: “Take a bottle label photo to fill in the wine details.” and “Pick a bottle label photo to fill in the wine details.” Photos are not uploaded to a Marshall Frith server.
On-device OCR. Label text is recognized with Apple Vision (VNRecognizeTextRequest) on the device. Parsed fields (producer, vintage, varietal, region heuristics) prefill the editor. OCR does not send the image to Marshall Frith or to Wikidata.
Optional Wikidata network lookup. When you look up a producer (or after OCR suggests one), the App may call the public Wikidata API at https://www.wikidata.org/w/api.php (action=wbsearchentities), with no API key, using an ephemeral URLSession and a short timeout (~4 seconds). The query string is the producer (and sometimes wine) text you entered or that OCR filled. Results are suggestions only. Offline, timeout, or no match leaves your OCR/manual fields as-is.
Cellar and label images on device. My Cellar is saved as Documents/MyCellar.json. Label images are saved under Documents/Labels/label-<id>.jpg (or png/jpeg). File Sharing / opening documents in place may be enabled so you can see those files in Finder when the phone is connected. Uninstalling the App removes this data from the device.
Drink-now decisions. Vintage windows, region tweaks, and tonight’s pick run offline on your device. Demo Cellar bottles are static in the App and are not your personal data.
No non-exempt encryption. Shipping builds should declare no non-exempt encryption for export compliance (ITSAppUsesNonExemptEncryption = no). Confirm that key is present in the TestFlight / App Store build’s Info.plist before submit.
What we do not collect
- No user accounts or profiles.
- No advertising identifiers for ads.
- No third-party analytics or crash SDKs in the App for tracking.
- No Drink It Now backend that stores your cellar, labels, or lookup history.
