ATAK + COTS sensor tip: drop a BLE weather station on the map

Pair a cheap Bluetooth weather station with ATAK so the team sees wind and temp as a marker — no custom plugin required.

Materials

Steps

  1. Pair the weather station in Android Bluetooth settings; confirm the companion app reads values.
  2. In ATAK, create a point marker at the sensor location (long-press map → place point).
  3. Name it clearly (e.g. WX-PAD-01) and put the latest reading in the remarks field.
  4. Share the marker to your team channel so others see it without opening the vendor app.
  5. Refresh remarks when wind shifts — or script later via an ATAK plugin / bridge if you outgrow copy-paste.

Tip: Keep units in the remarks (12 kt NE · 72 F) so nobody guesses. Manual on purpose — good enough for a pad day.
