ATAK + COTS sensor tip: drop a BLE weather station on the map
Pair a cheap Bluetooth weather station with ATAK so the team sees wind and temp as a marker — no custom plugin required.
ATAKCOTSfield
Materials
- Android device with ATAK (civ build is fine for this sketch)
- COTS BLE weather station that exposes temperature / wind over a companion app
- Optional: USB-C battery pack for a long sit
Steps
- Pair the weather station in Android Bluetooth settings; confirm the companion app reads values.
- In ATAK, create a point marker at the sensor location (long-press map → place point).
- Name it clearly (e.g.
WX-PAD-01) and put the latest reading in the remarks field.
- Share the marker to your team channel so others see it without opening the vendor app.
- Refresh remarks when wind shifts — or script later via an ATAK plugin / bridge if you outgrow copy-paste.
